It has been captured in the photo clicks of millions of people from all over the Earth and has caused the admiration of those who happened to be there and saw it painted in the colors of the sunset, as the sun sinks far into the sea.
Today the caldera of Santorini is one of the most valuable places in Greece. On its edge are built the most luxurious hotels, most of them underground, respecting the traditional architecture and hosting the most exclusive guests every year.
In Oia, the most impressive sight of both the caldera and the sunset can be seen from the old Castle of Agios Nikolaos, which was built entirely on the cliff, but a large part of it collapsed during the 1956 earthquake.
